I bought some Basa Swai. Not knowing anything about fish. I bought it for my boyfriend and made fish and chips for him.. we couldn't stomach the fish it had a really muddy taste to it. we didn't care for it at all. Being that i am not a fish eater i will never buy it again.

I bought it because it was inexpensive. It's been the tastiest fish I have ever had. It's naturally seasoned.

Kaylee, fish is not fish is not fish. Swai is of the catfish family, meaning it's a bottom feeder. As a result, without proper cleaning and then marinating, it will taste a bit muddy. Please don't write this fish off, it is really quite tasty. Just try another recipe more suited to the fish itself. For example, Swai is excellent when marinated overnight in buttermilk. Then, coating (either crumb or batter) and frying is okay. The buttermilk removes the silty flavor the meat retains, and yet allows the light and flaky texture of the fish to shine.

I purchased Swai at Wal-Mart of all places. It was something new and I was introduced by one of the store managers. I decided to grill it. Awesome does not even begin to cover my experience. Yes, it is different but the taste was very similar to catfish/tilapia. The fish came individually packed and frozen. I thawed, cleaned and seasoned the Swai with a griller’s lemon pepper blend with sea salt and fresh lemon. Again, awesome does not begin to cover how well the fish turned out.

One suggestion base in a little olive oil or spray grill with an oil spray; because Swai is flaky and could break up on grill (I also used non-stick aluminum foil).
